YouTubes Preferred Channels List Revealed With No Great Surprises

For those who've been following the latest news on Google's 'Preferred Program' for Advertisers, the list of 'Preferred Channels' has been revealed (thanks to Tubefilter). If you need a quick catch up on why YouTube is doing this - 'Google Preferred' is designed to increase ad rates and create a level of exclusivity on top channels for advertisers who otherwise can choose to advertise relatively cheaply on the hundreds of hours of video uploaded per minute. Under the new scheme advertisers can pay a higher rate to advertise against the top 5% of YouTube channels. In other words, if you want to pay and reserve space on YouTube's most popular channels then you need to pay a premium.

Now YouTube has to sell those premium channels to the advertisers and has even been running TV ads to promote creators Bethany Mota, Rosanna Pansino and Michelle Phan. Now it's produced a bunch of promo videos (unfortunately they've been made private - presumably by invitation only) - but here's a list of some of the channels YouTube regards as it's prime real estate by topics as mentioned in their showreel. There's no surprises here, except there are some very popular channels I'd not seen before.

There will be more for advertisers to choose from - as determined by ”P Score“, that's based on a channel's level of repeat viewership, length of viewing sessions, social shares, and other metrics. There should be at least 14 more categories included and revealed on the lead up to the 2014 Brandcast event.
