YouTube to Acquire Twitch for $1 Billion? Its Looking Likely [Rumor]

According to a breaking story at Variety, the world's biggest and most popular video site, YouTube, is acquiring videogame-streaming company Twitch, for an estimated $1 billion. Although both YouTube and Twitch have declined to confirm or deny the story, sources near to the deal confirm it's on, and that Google owned YouTube is also preparing for a show-down with U.S. regulators if the acquisition is challenged.

Twitch, launched June 2011, was one of the very first sites to host live-streamed user-generated video, primarily of gaming footage. It has around 45 million monthly users, more than 1 million members actively uploading video content on a monthly basis. In March of this year, the site accounted for nearly 1.4% of all North American fixed-access bandwidth usage, nearly triple from last Autumn.
