And I just got used to writing 72 hours a minute. It’s been a full year since YouTube announced that amazing stat, but now the video destination site is looking at 100 hours a minute. Announcing this on the YouTube Blog, which is celebrating another one of YouTube’s birthdays (there are several, it’s hard to keep track sometimes), YouTube is putting it into perspective: that’s 4 days of content uploaded in a minute. And that’s great for YouTube. It shows that it continues to grow and there are no signs of it letting up.
But what does that mean for you, the video uploader? It means you’re going to have to try harder to get noticed. It means following the YouTube Creator Playbook and making your videos stand out from the rest. While the stats from YouTube about their volume is great news for them and is fun to read about for sheer astonishment, it means you have to step up your game. Creating video that succeeds is still more than a simple creative endeavor.
Of course, those stats are just going to keep rising. They’ll continue to be amazing and our jaws will drop, because we can’t actually picture how many hours of footage that is getting uploaded to YouTube. We just know it’s a ton. And we must do the work to keep up.
