Viewcast Expands H.264 Offerings

ViewCast’s Niagara 7500 streaming appliance and Niagara SCX software will now stream in H.264 using the Real Time Message Protocol (RTMP) – a proprietary protocol developed by Adobe, designed for high-performance transmission of audio, video, and data between Adobe Flash Platform technologies, allowing the Niagara SCX software to work seamlessly with the Adobe Flash Media Server software.

The Nielsen Company Three Screen Report Shows Video Still on the Rise

The Three Screens report from The Nielsen Company has shown once again that video watching has increased on television, Internet and mobile devices. According to the report the average American is watching more than 151 hours of television shows per month. Those who seek their video entertainment online are watching more than three hours per month while those on the go are watching almost four hours on mobile devices. Those Americans that prefer to watch what they want, when they want (timeshifted DVR content) on their television are nearly doubling mobile device and Internet video viewers with seven hours plus per month with young adults watching both about five hours a month.

mobile tv video Huge Rise in Mobile TV and Mobile Video Usage Predicted by 2010 QuickPlay Media, the premier provider of mobile TV and video solutions,  revealed the results of an independent Market Tools survey focused on mobile TV and video consumption in the UK. On a positive note the research revealed consumers are confident in the uptake of mobile TV and video, with 74 percent of respondents expecting an increase in usage by 2010. The survey indicates an increase in the number of consumers that have viewed mobile TV and video content on 2008’s results, rising from 41 to 48 percent.

However, there are still a number of barriers preventing wide-scale adoption. Almost half (46%) of the respondents were not aware if their mobile operator offered mobile TV or video services, 50 percent were discouraged by perceived costs and 55 percent of those on monthly price plans were subscribed to voice and text services only, limiting access to mobile TV and video.
