The Web Video Marketing Council is conducting its second annual Video Email Marketing Survey to examine how marketing professionals are using online video, social media and, in particular, video email in their outbound marketing and communications efforts. We'd like your help and you're invited to participate in the short online survey here.

For your participation, you'll receive a free copy of the research report.  The survey consists of about 15 questions and should take about 5 minutes to complete.

Video Email Marketing Past: 2010 Survey Results

Last year's survey results, which can be found here, revealed some interesting and compelling insights into the usage of and interest in video email marketing.  For example:

  • 73% of respondents believed that integrating video with email marketing likely increases email CTR (click-through rates).
  • Additionally, almost three quarters stated that they believed that consumers would be more likely to purchase or convert after viewing an email campaign that included video.
  • Roughly 50% of the respondents stated that they had already used video in their email marketing efforts.
  • Almost 1/4 said they were considering using video within email marketing.

The survey also asked marketers what they think are the most effective ways to deploy video with email and what they believe are the primary barriers to using video with email marketing. Most marketers agreed that linking from a video image in the email message to a video landing page was the most effective while using animated and video GIF's were cited by the fewest number of marketers as the most effective video email application.

For video email marketing, I'd highly recommend MotionLetter ( It's only be around a couple of months but allows for full real-time and autoresponder video campaigns via email.

If your not already aware of it, I'd recommend MotionLetter for automated video campaigns. It's an easy yet powerful pay-per-view system that sends videos to an email list on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.

Although we developed this, so it only makes sense to sing it's praises - there is actually a lot of great use we get from MotionLetter ourselves. The emails are entirely branded (logos and colors) and the video 'watch' pages back in the browser feature one-click commenting modules, additional resources, custom banner ads, and more; all with the same branding - making it very easy to setup complex video campaigns and keep branding consistency.

If you'd like to learn more about all the features of MotionLetter, just head over to Now all you need to do is make the video, we'll take care of the rest!

Hello, Just filled in the survey some interesting thoughts that I have not thought about in there!

We use video in our e-mail marketing efforts in one of two ways:

    1. Training tips, after we start working with a client we use video to highlight a series of best practices, this is a 10 day e-mail campaign to their inbox designed to improve the quality of the work they are doing.

    2. Video testimonials, these are sent out to prospective clients, saves clients having to read a sales letter which may not be read.

We teach this as a key strategy to our offline customers who have had resounding success with video emails. Why? Because the offline community have never seen anything like it. It is the Wow factor. We do two types of video emails. Aweber where we have a picture of the video and hyperlink it to the landing page. This is very strategic as it drives regular traffic to our website which Google loves and helps with interactivity, viral sharing of the message [social media comments on page] and regular traffic to your site which Google loves.

The second strategy we use Eyejot for video replies. We also teach this as part of the 'lead to conversion' strategies for business like Real Estate Agents and Gyms to add the next step or Wow factor. Every meeting we attend we always, always, always send a followup video email. We have not missed one tender, bid or business since using this strategy and our clients LOVE it.

The wow factor may not be in the online community that live, breathe and eat video and social media. But in the offline market [where the marketing $$$$ are spent] you are crazy not to be implementing and teaching this strategy.

    We LOVE video emails.

There's no doubt that email marketing works BUT in addition to the traditional email marketing (mass email) one should look at another marketing opportunity and that is the emails we all send from our corporate email addresses every day. I represent a company that has developed a solution for just those emails and thus this post.
The basic idea behind WRAPmail is to utilize the facts that all businesses have websites and employees that send emails every day. These emails can become complete marketing tools and help promote, brand, sell and cross-sell in addition to drive traffic to the website and conduct research. WRAPmail is available for free at
WRAPmail also helps search for missing children with every email sent by incorporating an optional RSS feed from the Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
