We told you all about WeVideo last month, with a detailed look at their cloud-based, collaboration-friendly video editing system. But now the whole world is about to get an up close and personal look at WeVideo, as YouTube has integrated it right into the YouTube experience, allowing for full video editing capabilities right within the browser.

Full Video Editing On YouTube

Full Video Editing On YouTube Finally Arrives With WeVideo Integration wevideo youtube3 606x396

This afternoon, YouTube began rolling out the WeVideo integration to users. Just upload your clip, and WeVideo does the rendering for you. It's got everything a traditional video editing software has: timelines, clips libraries, color correction, sound effects, and more.

Yes, you can now... finally... edit your videos as part of the upload and publishing process on YouTube. up until today, while there were some editing options offered inside the YouTube experience, they were pretty limited.

This move puts WeVideo alongside other YouTube.com/create partners like GoAnimate, Magisto, & Xtranormal.

Here's a video on the WeVideo capabilities and integration:

Here's Jostein Svendsen, the CEO of WeVideo, on the partnership:

"WeVideo's integration to YouTube opens up the exciting world of video editing to millions of video story-tellers. This partnership gives YouTube users an intuitive cloud-based tool that is far more powerful than most desktop solutions. And with the ability to immediately post completed projects to their respective YouTube channels, video story telling has never been easier.”

Game Changing?

I generally dislike the phrase "game-changing," but this is huge. Absolutely huge. While many video creators will continue to use professional editing software because of their familiarity with it or it's particular bells and whistles, WeVideo brings video editing capabilities to the masses... for free... right inside the YouTube account and in the browser. It doesn't get any easier than that.

Now you no longer need Sony Vegas, or Final Cut Pro. Sure, pros will still use things like that. But I'm talking about the millions--tens or hundreds of millions--of people out there who don't have professional software... or can't afford it. Now they don't need to.

It's getting easier and easier for even the most technologically challenged users to shoot, edit, and publish video. This kind of move is potentially game changing because it opens the door to a legion of new filmmakers and video creators.

As devices like smartphones and tablets continue to get better at recording video, it's going to be pretty easy in the near future to shoot, upload, fully edit, and publish video all from a mobile device while on the go, even for amateurs.

I can't wait to try it out. It's rolling out to users starting today, and will be officially announced tomorrow.

Hmm.. How to start creating a video? I clicked on Create a Video then clicked on Start WeVideo. Another window popped up and ask for authorization (google account). I clicked on Allow and all that happened is it downloaded this file named auth. I want to use WeVideo but how xD.

As an update re. WeVideo (no I am not getting paid for this, I just think it is important!) - they just updated their charges and services for the paid version. Now all paid levels (cheapest now is $5/mo) let you also download your finished video to your local computer. Before that was only offered at the higher pricing levels. Good move IMO. Plus the lower prices make this an even more compelling product... Pricing/Service info: https://www.wevideo.com/sign-up.

Woo Hoo! I am sooo looking forward to uploading videos to YouTube and editing them in YouTube! The crochet world may never be the same! *Drool* Can't wait to give this a try. Now I don't have to trouble my husband for his mac book (and I can cross that off my Christmas list!)

Does this tie into YouTube editing in such a way that you get to keep the same URL if you want to? (assuming there are < 1000 views or so).

OK, I see the upgrade path is to work with wevideo.com and do "collaborative" video work, you can have others send you footage to use in your edits and even share the editing experience with others (I guess that's where the "We" came from in the name WeVideo.) All this is my guessing as I have not done it all yet.

The integration with video is not as tight as YouTube's own editor which lets you make minor edits without changing the video's URL. So once you finish editing with We Video, you can then Export/Publish it to your YouTube "My Videos" area.

Re. WeVideo editing via YouTube: I have not played with it yet, but I see it as a "Game Changer" doing my video editing in the cloud for free... (I'm guessing there will be a "pro" version for a fee maybe?)

Now I have played a bit... the free version has a 15 min. of video limit per month that you can "export" to your YouTube channel. Plus it has a watermark on it. I'm guessing that the paid account takes away the watermark and possibly the limit on how much you can export per month (perhaps even letting you save the video file and upload to other places besides YouTube?).

Nice...course anyone who has a mac or pc has access to IMovie and Moviemaker... look forward to learning more about it.

-- A downside might be the time consumed in uploading multiple, untrimmed video files that would then be trimmed and organized 'in the cloud'. Then, again, there's little evidence of trimming *or* the use of multiple clips by casual Youtube users, anyway.

I've played with it this morning, but haven't published the video yet. LOOOVE IT!!

You are right! The technology tools available for free are amazing. The quality of video on mobile devices is amazing. It's an amazing marriage that will last and unleash many artists! Now...let's talk about design and scripting. Control yourself... less is more. But now their is no excuse not to try.

Thanks for your comments! We are very proud about what we have, but we also know that this is only the beginning. Expect to see some major enhancements to our platform in the near future - including in usability and design. :)
