Pay Wall Video Platform VHX Is Now Open To All   Not Just Bill Murray!

I confess that I dropped Bill Murray's name into the title of this post to get your attention - but the good news is that if you want to buy a VOD version of the comedy series TVTV, starring Bill then you can get it thanks to VHX. What got my attention is that VHX, now allows all creators to sell their DRM-free videos directly to their fans. VHX has been in private beta for the past two years and has released projects like a comedy special from Aziz Ansari and the Academy Award-nominated documentary The Act of Killing among others.

To quote VHX: 'Everything that used to be sold on DVD can be sold on VHX. We've helped creators sell their films, documentaries, standup specials, live concert footage, lectures, web series and more.' Jamie Wilkinson is co-founder of VHX, and here he is speaking about his vision for the platform when they launched.

Behind Jamie's vision VHX is a set of tools, not a hub. It’s not a forum, it’s not a PR firm or an advertising agency, and it’s not YouTube or Netflix for independent film makers. Content doesn’t live on VHX - it's a pay Wall video platform in the way that WordPress, is a CMS platform. There is nothing particularly unique about VHX's technology either - at heart it's an embeddable Pay-per-view gateway and video player, not dissimilar to Vimeo's On Demand or Vidmeup's Enterprise Package.

However, VHX has built a reputation as a one stop, out-of-the-box solution for film content creators and independent art content distributors. VHX provides project guideline support and marketing support for crowdfunding efforts on Indiegogo and Kickstarter. VHX is funded by Union Square Ventures, Lerer Ventures, William Morris Endeavor, and other angels. They've raised $4.45 million in funding to date and presumably are hoping that opening their service to the the wider creator community will bring in the revenues to build the business further.

By the way VHX is free to sign up and use, and they charge just 10% + $0.50 per transaction (down from 15-20%), and if you’re an existing publisher this pricing will be effective as of March 1st.
