On Video Cloud 9 – Video & Cloud-based Computing
Video can sometimes require a large amount of resources. So it’s no wonder that with the ever-increasing popularity of cloud-based computing that someone realized it might be a good way to go with online video. This past week, FierceOnlineVideo published a good post that looks at how “cloud computing,” can be applied to support online video destination sites.
If you’re not familiar with cloud computing then read on and find out how it’s helping some online video businesses keep things flowing freely in streaming media.
The YouTube Reel Deel (Clearing some of the air around YouTube)
YouTube seems to think that we’re not exactly up to speed on what it is they are doing over there. Apparently they don’t like the pigeonhole they have been put into as just user-generated, short-form, low-quality, freely available video with no revenue channels or monetization (not that we ever said they were any of that mind you). So in an effort to help change people’s attitudes they did a little myth busting of late. I’ve pulled that together with some other stuff to help you see the ‘Reel Deel” over at YouTube.

Intangible Values of Online Video – Beyond Monetization
D2DVD recently blogged about whether or not online video has some sort of value not based in money. While many of us equate popularity and views with value ,some of us might have forgotten about a great deal of other avenues that might be considered to have value for the creators. Sure retail sales tracking and ad revenue are valuable, but what else is there?
Joost Reinvents Service as Brandable Video Platform
Joost was what the creators of Skype went on to after it was sold. They’ve recently announced a new focus for the company, mainly they want to be a white box video platform and they’re working toward that goal now.
The new Joost will seek to allow media companies to create a branded video sharing presence for themselves. It seems that Joost wasn’t doing so well as a consumer-facing product, competing directly with YouTube, and so they’ve moved their aim at bigger potential clients. Meanwhile Hulu has taken the lead for high quality broadcast TV video online.
About YouTube’s New Channels – YouTube Channels 2.0
In case you thought YouTube Channels 1.0 were shite, they’ve now given us version 2.0 (beta). But really, what’s in a name and version number?
Ok so YouTube is getting ready to release a new version of YouTube channels and they’re quite pleased with themselves overall. Thousands are already using the new Channels 2.0 but they’re continuing to add on to them and this week they’ve added a whole new slew of things including… channel ADS. If you are a Youtube Partner, you will be able to pile on a ‘full range of ads’ on your YouTube Channel. It’s about time!
Youtube Adds AutoSharing – YouTwitFace is Now Real
For those of you that may have missed it, a few weeks back, Conan O’Brien, on his Tonight Show sketch called “In the Year 3000,” predicted that in the future, YouTube, Twitter and Facebook would merge and create “one super time-wasting site called ‘YouTwitFace’.” 1 week later, the folks at Youtube made this prediction a reality with the launch of new functionality that allows users to automatcially “share” new video uploads across FB and Twitter.

Vimeo is Better Than YouTube For Sharing Video?
Someone recently dropped me a line to tell me that Vimeo was better than YouTube. Me, being the easy-going guy I am, said “OK.” Of course this might have been a clever plot on their part to get me to check it out for one reason or another. Again, I’m easy-going, so I did.
TwitVid Enables Easy Video Sharing for Twitter
First there was Twitmatic, which let you track and find videos being shared on Twitter. Now there’s TwitVid which actually lets you share videos on Twitter. Convenient no?
TwitVid helps you to actually share your videos on Twitter which is quite useful really. It utilizes the Twitter API so you can login with your Twitter account which is handy.
Quicktime to have Built in YouTube Support
If you’re an iPhone user you already know you can watch your favorite YouTube videos on it via the app. However, if you’re a Quicktime user you’ve always had to do your encoding and video editing and then go either to YouTube’s page or use another application to upload your videos.
Hulu is a Mouseketeer
In case you haven’t managed to read any of half a dozen places today. Disney has invested in Hulu. No big surprise really, someone was bound to do it sooner or later.
