Search Engines are Just Waiting for Your Video Content

Today I wanted to share an interview with media agency executive Robert Davis, Interactive Marketing Director/Leader of Interactive Video for Ogilvy Interactive.  Robert tells Andy Plesser of Beet.tv that they have seen a tremendous rise in traffic to video content coming from search engines, especially over the past 6 months.

“We are also seeing a tremendous search value from video now…

Links Matter for Universal Search Video Rankings

One of the tips that I gave in my last post was to add video to pages that may already be ranked high in Google for a particular keyword (excluding your home page), and to then submit a video sitemap to Google.  The reason for this, aside from the importance of adding engaging content to your site, is that by doing so, you may be able to gain a universal search ranking for that search term or a blended organic search result with a thumbnail.  I mention this because I have seen it work.  That being said, Google’s Matt Cutts confirms one piece of the puzzle as to why this can work.

The Next Wave for Online Video Search Optimization

Last month, I was presented with an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up to speak at SES San Jose 2009 . Of course, I accepted and participated on a panel along with Gregory Markel, Founder and President of InfuseCreativeDavid Burch, Director of Marketing for Tubemogul, and Erin Bouchier, Business Lead for Google / YouTube.  The session was titled, “The Next Wave for Online Video.”

Youtube, Web Video and SEO Reputation Management

You may have read our post titled, “What’s Your Online Video SEO Reputation Worth?” about the brand, trademarks, and reputation management session at SES San Jose 2009.  We caught up with Sage Lewis, President of SageRock Digital Marketing after he was done moderating this informative session.

Without Video, Your Website will NOT Rank in the Future

At the Search Engine Strategies conference a few weeks back, we had the pleasure of interviewing Bruce Clay.  We asked Bruce about the importance of online video when it comes to organic and universal search ranking algorithms in Google. For those of you not in the search marketing industry, Bruce is sort of a “big kahuna.”  He founded www.bruceclay.com back in 1996, before some of us even were on the internet, and his firm Bruce Clay, Inc. , is the is one of the top SEO and SEM firms in the world.

Porn Video in Google Universal Search Results?

Today I read an interesting post over at SEORoundTable about a video that is appearing within Google universal search results for the search “Rambha.”  Rambha is a famous Indian actress and according to the post, the video result has already been reported to Google by Rusty Brick, the author of the post as well as an individual claiming to represent the actress well over 24 hours ago.  I have also reported the video.  Why are we reporting the result to Google and why am I posting this?

Video Search Queries in The Google Caffeine Sandbox

I’ve been playing around with the just-announced Google Caffeine sandbox (www2.sandbox.google.com – which is down for “system maintenance” at the moment), trying to discover any subtle differences I can find between it and the current live engine.  There aren’t many.  A lot of people in the SEO realm have weighed in with their initial thoughts; I thought I’d add my own.

I stuck mostly to video-related queries, since that’s what we talk about here at ReelSEO.com, and the verdict is…

Major Google Video Changes Meet with Mixed Reviews

On April 14th Google announced, via their blog, that they would no longer support video uploads to Google Video but that it would continue to be a place for people to find videos (Google Blog), Changes have since been implemented at the video search page and have met with mixed reviews from the userbase.

The Google Blog stated:

Anyone can easily search for videos from all over the web using Google Video. Finding things is the heart of what Web Search is all about so we’re gladly taking Google Video under our wings [Google Web Search Help Forum].

Video Thumbnails in Universal Search – Google Confirms They Work

Last week, on the official Google Blog, they revealed a new set of eye-tracking studies that confirm what many have concluded already.  In particular, that video results shown with thumbnails in Google’s universal search results do do NOT distract significantly from the user’s experience and actually DO help to “make it easier” for users to find results.

Below is the first video released by Google that shows an example of an eye-tracking study, in real-time on a universal search results page for the infamous example query, “How to tie a tie”:

Videos Are 50 Times More Likely to Rank on the First Page of Google?

first page google1 Videos Are 50 Times More Likely to Rank on the First Page of Google?Last week, Nate Elliot at Forrester published an interesting blog post titled, “The Easiest Way to a First-Page Ranking on Google.” In his post, Nate discloses the results of a study/experiment that they conducted whereby a series of popular keyword searches were run on the major search engines and the number of video results that were displayed were compared to that of regular HTML documents and organic results (text results).  The results of the study indicated that on Google, an indexed video stands about a 50 times greater chance of ranking on the first page of results than any given textual page in the index.

Not only are video results increasingly common in Google’s search results, but your videos stand a much better chance than your text pages of being shown on the first results page.”
