Truveo recently did some research which showed they outshine all others in European video search coverage. You might want to take with a grain of salt considering they were doing the research on their own industry and their own service and it might be slightly skewed. Not that we’re saying it is skewed, but it’s not an independent study so…

Truveo released a second generation version of its widely praised video search application for the iPhone, with new features and additional videos. Through the Truveo Mobile Video Search for iPhone app, users can now access more than 145 million videos1, making it the most comprehensive video search offering on the iPhone. In addition, a special “What’s Hot” section features popular videos from across the Web, including videos from today’s presidential inauguration of Barack Obama.

The presidential elections dominated user searches this year, according to AOL’s annual lists of top Web, mobile and video searches across more than 40 categories for 2008. But celebrities continued to be hot topics for searchers as well. The rankings are based on the people, places and topics that received the largest volume of Web and mobile search queries on AOL Search, http://search.aol.com, and on Truveo, AOL’s leading video search engine, http://www.truveo.com.
Truveo is the Most Comprehensive Video Search Platform – New Study

Truveo’s video search engine provides the most comprehensive results of any major search engine online, according to an extensive study conducted by the search engine team. The study, conducted in August, looked at how well Truveo, Blinkx, Google Video, Microsoft Live Video Search and Yahoo! Video Search covered the top 100 Alexa-rated news, sports, TV, music and movie sites that have video content. The study showed that Truveo covered 86 of those sites; Blinkx covered 20; Microsoft Live Video Search covered 17; Google Video covered three and Yahoo! Video Search covered two.

AOL has just announced the launch of a beta version of Truveo mobile video search. In addition to the already released iPhone application, users with other mobile devices will have a chance as well to search Truveo’s vast online video index via WAP (Wireless Application Protocol).

Video search engine blinkx is the latest video search platform to join the recent trend of video search engine companies who have launched private-label video search services and offerings (Truveo, Youtube, Pixsy, etc..).
The new service, dubbed “Red Label,” will allow other websites to utilize blinkx video search technology to provide a complete video search experience for their users. The service is actually one that blinkx already offers to more than 40 current partners, like AOL, Lycos, and Looksmart.

Yidio.com is a new video search engine that just launched. They have launched with more than 200 million videos as well as 3400 free online arcade games to play.
Yidio.com is the second website released by 2ten Media LLC. Their first website, SportsSnipe.com, was launched 8 months ago with sports news from over 4,000 sources.
