The Nielsen Company Three Screen Report Shows Video Still on the Rise

The Three Screens report from The Nielsen Company has shown once again that video watching has increased on television, Internet and mobile devices. According to the report the average American is watching more than 151 hours of television shows per month. Those who seek their video entertainment online are watching more than three hours per month while those on the go are watching almost four hours on mobile devices. Those Americans that prefer to watch what they want, when they want (timeshifted DVR content) on their television are nearly doubling mobile device and Internet video viewers with seven hours plus per month with young adults watching both about five hours a month.

IAB Focuses in on Long-Form Web Video Ad Standards

Underscoring the urgent need for advertising standards in the online video business, the Interactive Advertising Bureau is launching its first effort this week to develop best practices for ads in TV shows on the Web. The IAB effort centers on “long-form” Web programs, including full episodes of TV shows that run online such as ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” or Fox’s “House.”

MarketingSherpa, a well-known and highly respected resource for research related to marketing efforts, just released their first-ever report that is focused on the fast-growing landscape of video marketing, titled, “Marketing With Video Report: Online, TV & Mobile.” I cannot even begin to tell you how impressed I am with this report.   In all honesty, I found myself overcome with feelings of envy and admiration when reading this report.  I wish I had written it myself, all 400 or so pages ;-)

Films and TV Shows Being Screened Via Online Video

Remember our post on January 1st of this year, titled, “10 Online Video Predictions for 2008?” If you do, you will recall that # 7 in our list was – Exclusive Online TV:

“I expect to see TV networks test and pilot new TV shows and episodes online in 2008.”

Well, that prediction is ringing true (somewhat – I know, I said “pilot”) with some recent news from both Youtube and its rival, Hulu.  First, Hulu just announced that they will be launching a fall lineup that includes the debuts of several network TV shows before they air on television.  Secondly, YouTube is going to screen a full-length feature film online in the next few months (more below).

Their new July 8th report showed that consumers are watching more time-shifted TV and using the internet more.
