Greg Jarboe – IP Extremism vs Fair Use with Online Video
At SES San Jose 2009, I spoke with Greg Jarboe, President and Co-Founder of SEO-PR, about some common legal questions and issues with regard to online video. Greg talks about “IP extremism” – the increase of attorneys’ knee-jerk legal reactions – including cease-and-desist orders and sometimes lawsuits –to seeing any instance of their client’s owned video content being up on YouTube and everywhere on the web by others even if those uses clearly fall under legally protected fair use guidelines.
Video and Social Marketing Reach a Groundswell
One of the highlights of the day-long track on Social Media & Video Strategies held in conjunction with Search Engine Strategies conference in San Jose, was a presentation by industry leader Nate Elliott, Principal Analyst, Forrester Research on the Groundswell, a book based on analysis by Forrester Research on how they look at social marketing. All too often marketers launch a Facebook, Twitter or YouTube account without a social media strategy which according to Forrester is a backwards approach.

The Blurring Line Between Worlds: Humans, Screen Watching, and Social Media
It seems the deeper you look into Social Media, the more it resonates as the natural evolution of the Internet’s ability to facilitate effective communication and to mimic our everyday lives. While scores of people would still consider themselves neophytes in the online space, many of us have settled into a routine with our Internet experience and no longer see it as something new, pretty, and shiny. It has gone from a novelty all the way to a mainlined utility, like the coffee maker or microwave oven.
SES San Jose 2009 Offers New Focus on Social Media & Video
The Search Engines Strategies Conference & Expo (SES for short) has got some big names lined up. It was recently announced that on 11 August, Clickz, Google and YouTube will hold an event (no not for Christophor Rick’s Birthday…though it’s the same day) in conjunction with SES that will be focused entirely on Social Media and Video Strategy.
Kristin Kovner, the Industry Marketing Manager at YouTube, posted the following on the Youtube Biz Blog,
“We’re excited to be a part of this first-time ever event. SES is one of the best places for businesses to learn about search; now that YouTube has millions of searches each day, it’s only fitting that ClickZ and SES are expanding the agenda to include a full day dedicated to video and social media.”
What? That is right, an entire day will be dedicated to Social Media and Video Strategies. Yipee. I’m going.

YouTube SEO – Ranking Factors – Beyond Views, Titles, & Tags
I attended Search Engine Strategies New York a few weeks ago and covered the conference via Twitter and blogging. I had a blast at the conference and attended some outstanding sessions during my three days at SES. One session that I always enjoy attending is Video SEO (since I do a lot of VSEO work). It’s great to hear from the panelists and compare what they are presenting to what I’m seeing with my own projects.
