Last week, Ooyala, an online video platform that we’ve covered many times in the past, released a completely overhauled, “Slim” new version of their video player. The new player has been aptly named, “Swift” because it is designed to offer improved playback with a faster loading, reduced size player. This, in addition to several other advanced features, is a major update for Ooyala customers.

eCommerce Video Comes Alive with Ooyala’s Backlot Platform
As we’ve posted many times in the past, online video has emerged as an exciting and effective new method of marketing ecommerce products and services online. Just a few weeks back, we covered some research recently released from comScore which details the benefits of utilizing online video for products in ecommerce. According to the research, the number of online shoppers who watched retail videos grew 40% in 2008 over 2007. We also know that ecommerce merchants are starting to dive into online video more aggressively; 43.3% of merchants stated that they planned to update their e-commerce sites with online video in 2009. Additionally, according to research from eMarketer, retail video viewers represented about 23% of total visitors to retail websites in October 2008, up from 17% in October 2007.
Ooyala Launches Exlusive Promotion for BrightCove Network Customers
Ooyala has launched an exclusive promotion for Brightcove customers who are affected by the announcement last week that they would be closing the “Brightcove Network.” ReelSEO has covered Ooyala in previous posts and we utilize their service for many of our videos.
Bismarck Lepe, the CEO of Ooyala told us – “We wanted to give Brightcove customers a quick and easy way to test an alternative to the BC publishing system. Today, Ooyala released several new options for syndication and distribution of online video. With the new release today, they have added 5 syndication options for your video content: Youtube, Yahoo Video Search, Blinkx Video Search, Google Video Sitemaps, and the ability to create custom MRSS feeds to be used in other applications across the web.

Delve Launches Web Video Publishing Platform
Delve Networks, formerly Pluggd Inc, today announced the launch of its new internet TV and internet video publishing platform which puts them in the same space as some excellent offerings by current video plaforms such as Brightcove and Ooyala. I will be spending some time evaluating this platform over the next several weeks and plan to present my findings to you all in the near future.
