Are Gaming Consoles the Future for Online Video Delivery?
According to a new report from TDG, a leading voice regarding the diffusion of broadband video, game consoles such as Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s PS3 are evolving into multimedia gateways with legitimate non-gaming media arsenals. Armed with the growing video libraries of Xbox LIVE and the Playstation Network, these consoles can deliver on-demand video services with content similar to local cable or satellite TV operators. Though similar efforts have failed (largely because they relied on consumers to buy yet another set-top box), the model and the timing seem to favor the console-based approach.
thePlatform Now Offers the Largest Set of Options for Online Video Advertising
Earlier this year, thePlatform, the leading white-label video management and publishing company, unveiled the industry’s largest collection of integrated partners for serving the professional online video market. Today, the company announced that it will bolster its roster of advertising integrations, with the additions of: 24/7 Real Media, Microsoft’s AdManager, DoubleClick In-Stream, Tremor Media, Kiptronic, and LiveRail.
Silverlight Announces H.264 Support for Online HD Video
Microsoft Silverlight has recently played a major role helping to shape some of the world’s biggest events in recent months. Silverlight – Microsoft’s cross-browser, cross-platform solution for delivering rich interactive applications and content experiences on the Web – helped viewers experience both the Olympic Games and the U.S. Democratic National Convention on the Web, providing an interactive, high-quality way for people to view both events.
Later this week, at the International Broadcasting Conference (IBC) 2008 in Amsterdam, Microsoft Corp. will demonstrate an important new capability for Silverlight – playback of H.264-based video. H264 is a standard video specification that delivers high-definition video over a variety of delivery channels. During the event, Microsoft will also highlight how customers in Europe are reaping the benefits of adopting Silverlight.

It is a lot like slideshare but is focused on files produced with Microsoft PowerPoint. Originally launched in 2007, authorStream is a free online community that gives members access to thousands of presentations on hundreds of subjects and allows users to embed them anywhere.
Move Networks Signs with Microsoft Silverlight
US online TV streaming specialist Move Networks is partnering with Microsoft to integrate with the software giant’s Silverlight media player.
Move Networks, whose clients include ABC, Fox and The CW, said the combination of its own technology with Silverlight would add new interactive advertising capabilities to its HD streaming services.
