Video vs Social Media, OR Why I Don’t Trust The Pew Study
You know, if I’m not careful, I’m going to rapidly turn into The Blogger Who Only Talks About Nalts. Of course, if he’d stop writing so many insightful articles related to the online video space, then maybe I’d be forced to go out and find something else to talk about. Until then… you should definitely throw Nalts’ RSS feed in your preferred reader.
A recent article, “Why Online Video Will ALWAYS Trump Social Media”, discusses a new study from Pew that says more people watch online video than use social media (62% compared to 46%).
2009 Online Video Backlash? I Doubt it!
Some sites have been predicting that 2009 may be the bubble busting time for online video. Like the dot com era that came crashing to a halt they believe that online video too will burst and collapse in upon itself. Personally, I call bullshit.
Online Video is Key to Automotive Industry Recovery?
If you’re to believe recent statistics into an automotive recovery then you might believe that social media and networking are going to help. Or you might believe that billions of taxpayers dollars are actually driving any potential recovery for the US automakers. Your choice really.
Eric Franchi recently published an article at Online Video Insider where he offers up some statistics from a recent Google-sponsored study on the matter. Since Google sponsored it, and they sell advertising, it’s hard to believe the study could have been anything but positive.
Online Video Fastest Growing Media Ever?
Oh ho hoo! Comic book guy from the Simpsons would be so proud of that statement. He would most likely smirk and say Fastest. Media. Ever. (Maybe I need a rant warning here)
Well apparently Trendstream has taken a page from his comic book collection and done the same thing in a recent report stating that online video is the fastest-growing media platform in the history of media. It’s even moving so fast that it’s beat out papyrus and the printing press I guess.

These videos are all from MediaPost’s Brightcove video channel and are of the 2007 OMMA Video Conference, held on Nov. 14th in Hollywood, California. While I was unable to attend the conference, a collegue of mine did attend and said that the information covered was very informative.
MediaPost Launches Video Sharing & Social Networking
I just received the following email from Media Post announcing their new social networking platform which is powered by conVerdge. In it, you can see that it mentions the ability to share videos…
Pre-Roll Video Advertising Pricing Facts & Perceptions
I came across the following excellent post by Tod Sacerdoti on MediaPost’s Video Insider Column. Tod is the CEO and Founder of Brightroll.com which powers video advertising aggregation. This is a great post and goes through great detail to explain the concerns that many ad buyers have with pricing for Pre-Roll Video Ads. Many feel that it is overly expensive and as a result, there is slow adoption. However, Tod explains how this has a lot to do with incorrect perceptions and that the facts suggest that pre-roll advertising costs are accurate and not overpriced.

Are Video Pre-Roll Ads a Thing of the Past? Comparing Video Ads
Comparing Video Ads: Why Pre roll advertising is a thing of past!
The concept of video advertising is not new to the Internet, however for some time the new video revolution that has taken the Internet with a storm, coupled with the concept of user generated content has led to the video ads gaining the spot they deserve on the center stage of Internet advertising.
