C-Level Execs Turn to Web Video for Business Information

Forbes Insights, in association with Google, announced the release of a new study today called, “The Rise of the Digital C-Suite: How Executives Locate and Filter Business Information.”  The study is of 354 C-level and top executives at major US companies with annual sales in excess of $1B and is designed to shed insight into how these executives discover and share business information.  As one would expect, the findings show that clearly the internet is the major source of information above that or network contacts, trade publications, etc…

Textual information is still king, but online video is growing in importance.   Almost 1/4th (24%) of those C-level respondents (vs. 16% non-C-suite) indicated a preference for retrieving business information via video.   So, do you want to graduate from a mere top level executive to a C-suite executive?  Its simple, watch more online video ;-)

Last week, I had the honor of speaking at the first annual Liveclicker Video Commerce Summit in Seattle, WA.  I was asked to discuss and present video search engine optimization and to help educate the audience on best practices for publishing online video in a search engine friendly manner.  The title, was Video + SEO – Not Smoke and Mirrors, Just Best Practices for E-commerce Video Publishing.  With that in mind, there are slides that are specifically geared towards e-commerce but the concepts and tactics apply across the board for publishing online video.

ooyala ecommerce video eCommerce Video Comes Alive with Ooyalas Backlot PlatformAs we’ve posted many times in the past, online video has emerged as an exciting and effective new method of marketing ecommerce products and services online.  Just a few weeks back, we covered some research recently released from comScore which details the benefits of utilizing online video for products in ecommerce.  According to the research,  the number of online shoppers who watched retail videos grew 40% in 2008 over 2007.  We also know that ecommerce merchants are starting to dive into online video more aggressively; 43.3% of merchants stated that they planned to update their e-commerce sites with online video in 2009.  Additionally, according to research from eMarketer, retail video viewers represented about 23% of total visitors to retail websites in October 2008, up from 17% in October 2007.
