CBS Articles

CBS Broadcasting Inc. (CBS) is a major US commercial broadcasting television network, which started as a radio network. The name is derived from the initials of the network’s former name, Columbia Broadcasting System. The network is sometimes referred to as the “Eye Network” in reference to the shape of the company’s logo. It has also been called the “Tiffany Network”, which alludes to the perceived high quality of CBS programming during the tenure of its founder William S. Paley (1901–90). It can also refer to some of CBS’s first demonstrations of color television, which were held in a former Tiffany & Co. building in New York City in 1950, thus earning it the name “Color broadcasting system” back when such a feat was innovative.
The network has its origins in United Independent Broadcasters Inc., a collection of 16 radio stations that was bought by William S. Paley in 1928 and renamed the Columbia Broadcasting System. Under Paley’s guidance, CBS would first become one of the largest…

Online Movie Trailers For Friday, February 3: Telekinesis, Saving Whales, & Life After Harry Potter

chronmodo

This past January was a good one for Hollywood, although it goes to show that year-over-year comparisons for specific months is a pretty short-sighted way of looking at this particular business, which entirely relies on product.  Subjective product.  And whenever Hollywood has a comparatively bad month compared to the previous year, it is always the ...

Over 7.4 Billion Video Ads In October As Tremor Video Tops A Billion

million billion

comScore has released the October 2011 Video Metrix report and the first thing that caught my eye, which I prognosticated on over a month ago, was Tremor Video topping one billion video ads a month, and they did it... and are continuing to close in on Hulu who is just about 250 million ads up ...

UFC To Hit Mobile Screens With New UFC Android App

ufc

The Ultimate Fighting Championship recently came to the Fox network, and people who had never watched the UFC before got to see a fight that lasted a little over a minute.  While that was disappointing, I'm sure, to previously-undefeated Cain Velasquez, the UFC, and anyone who watched their first ever match that night, there's no ...

CBS Live Stream of LSU-Alabama Game Breaks College Football Record

lsu alabama

As expected, CBS saw the college football record broken for an online/mobile audience during Saturday's LSU-Alabama showdown.  Over 200,000 watched the game via the website and CBS Sports Mobile, which considering that the network was seeing numbers "hovering just under six figures" means they more than doubled their greatest online audience.  The number is significant ...

Watch The LSU-Alabama Game Online & Help CBS Break A Live Streaming Record

LSU-Alabama

CBS has been pretty awesome in the streaming video racket for awhile now.  They offer streams of The Masters and the NCAA Tournament, all in the face of the risk that somehow, they'd lose TV ad dollars from the potential lost audience watching the events online.  However, CBS seems to take the opinion, a right ...

amazon fox

A lot of moves have been made suddenly in regards to online video streaming for TV and film. Netflix signed a deal hoping to quell the subscriber rebellion they're experiencing and Amazon just got FOX. I wonder if they will then be some sort of launch partner for the Amazon-branded tablet that is set to ...

comscore-vs-nielsen-may2011

It's time once again to take a look at the previous month's online video viewing numbers and statistics. This time, I waited until I got them from both the two major statistics firms, comScore and Nielsen, before writing anything up. It gives a clearer picture when you're able to compare the two. Not at all ...

Tornado Outbreak Shows The Speed & Power Of Social Video

I spent the better part of my Wednesday evening following media coverage of the tornado outbreak in Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, & Georgia. So far, 127 tornadoes have been confirmed, the death toll is at 54-and-climbing, and the devastation is immense and widespread. Online video was my primary method of following the storms---live news streams, YouTube ...

Is Online Video Dying? Comscore's Video Metrix Says Fizzle in Feb

comscore-video-metrix

This doesn't make much sense to me, but it seems like less people in the US (170M vs. 171M) started more video sessions (5B vs. 4.8B) in February than in January, and then watched for less time (816 vs 870 minutes) each. So it seems like viewership is in decline from the all-time high of ...
