“Video is a Social Medium” – YouTube & Social Media
As part of the Search Engine Strategies San Jose Conference & Expo last month, YouTube and Google sponsored a day long event with ClickZ, the Social Media & Video Strategies Forum which featured a variety of speakers who explored the successes and failures experienced by companies, celebrities, and politicians in using video in the online social sphere. We had the opportunity to speak with Kristin Kovner, Industry Marketing Manager with YouTube about their sponsorship of the track and what’s new and exciting with YouTube.
Wow – Google Marries Video To Paid Search Ads
Okay, this is too cool.
I’ve heard about this, but hadn’t seen it live and in the wild until today. While not entirely surprising, the fact that Google has added video to the paid search ads in their results is kind of a big deal.
YouTube Brand Channels – The Missing Link
As an independent consultant, I am involved in a number of projects for setting up either partner or brand channels on YouTube. The most frequently asked question I get from brand or content owners is: “How does a YouTube brand channel help me in getting more traffic on my site?“
Although one can argue on the necessity of that requirement in a distributed world, so far, the way Google sells brand channels does not help much in answering that question.
Youtube’s New Promoted Video Placement is Deceptive?
YouTube has changed some areas of their Promoted videos service. Is it good, bad or otherwsie? Plus is it still Promoted videos or has it simply become an expansion of the Related Videos area of the site? Let’s take a closer look at it and find out just what’s going on.
Microsoft, Yahoo search and You – The Reel Deel
Big news this week from the world of Google haters and would be slayers of the search engine giant as well as for anyone who uses search engines, search advertising or ever has had a need to find something on the web. Microsoft has signed on Yahoo to its search engine service. But what’s that really mean for you and yours?
SES San Jose 2009 Offers New Focus on Social Media & Video
The Search Engines Strategies Conference & Expo (SES for short) has got some big names lined up. It was recently announced that on 11 August, Clickz, Google and YouTube will hold an event (no not for Christophor Rick’s Birthday…though it’s the same day) in conjunction with SES that will be focused entirely on Social Media and Video Strategy.
Kristin Kovner, the Industry Marketing Manager at YouTube, posted the following on the Youtube Biz Blog,
“We’re excited to be a part of this first-time ever event. SES is one of the best places for businesses to learn about search; now that YouTube has millions of searches each day, it’s only fitting that ClickZ and SES are expanding the agenda to include a full day dedicated to video and social media.”
What? That is right, an entire day will be dedicated to Social Media and Video Strategies. Yipee. I’m going.

Distribution Deals Help Google Increase TV Ad Inventory
As of September Google has been selling time through Google TV Adwords for NBC advertising inventory. The announcement was made on September 24th on the Google offline ads blog.
Again they’ve made another deal, this time with Bloomberg TV. Starting November 6th Google started allowing advertisers to target Bloomberg TV viewers in the US. While this was previously available through a partnership with Dish Network it is now a direct link between the two firms and gives advertisers more access to more inventory there. From the looks of things it’s the first of many that will be coming soon to the Google TV Ads flock.
Google Video Ads Take About 48 Hours to be Approved (Search Engine Roundtable)
Google’s video ads can be an interesting way to drive more traffic to your site. But if you expect video ads to be approved immediately or as quickly as your text ads, don’t bank on it. A Google AdWords Group thread has one advertiser who posted his video yesterday and got impatient. He then asked how long it will take for approval and AdWordsPro Sarah said it takes about 48 hours but can …
