It’s that time again, Streaming Media West is just a few weeks away. It’s at a new venue this year, the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach. The two-day event brings together the online video industry’s top thought leaders for two days of how to create, use, and monetize online video.
Pre-conference seminars include technical sessions about webcast production, encoding for multiscreen delivery, and building a future-proof web video player. Regular conference technical sessions include understanding HEVC/H.265, evaluating your H.264 encoder, creating OTT apps, and MPEG DASH and HEVC or 4K deployments. Business strategy sessions include online distribution and monetization for the TV industry, reinventing education with video, best practices for live streaming, LTE and mobile video, and YouTube strategy for brands.
A rather interesting session in the 11:30-12:30 slot on Tuesday will look at how to match up streaming video metrics with traditional TV ad buys, while another is a how-to on using Google Glass to capture and publish videos, certainly a timely session for many.
On Wednesday the conference is joined by Stephen Godwin, Senior Technical Architect from the BBC who is going to talk about how they served 36.5 billion videos via their BBC iPlayer which has 6 million UK users each month. Later in the day there will be a best practices session on building an enterprise video platform and a panel on OTT services and the impact they will have on the bundled TV model.
Producer Live Conference Debut
The brand-new, two-day event, Streaming Media Producer Live, will be held in tandem with the Streaming Media West event and promises to offer expert instruction, strategies and showcase how teams create, use and monetize both live and on-demand video.
Producer Live is aimed at giving you the basic information you need to create great web video. Sessions will look at things like the basics of lighting, framing and shooting video for the web, how to interview, producing serial content, putting together a cost-effective portable streaming kit, integrating real-time social media and more. While everything is video-centric there are also sessions on audio, technical aspects like synchronized webcasts, video encoding, video switchers and mixers, and flypacks (mobile studios).
Producer Live is full of enough information to get you excited about shooting better video for online and the foundation it gives you from technical and practical angles could be the difference between your success or failure in marketing your online video to the masses. The last session at the conference is specifically about How to Brand Your Online Productions, going well beyond sticking it all on one YouTube channel or slapping on a logo “bug” on every video.
