Social TV Buzz Doubles YOY & Twitter Remains #1 for Social TV Activity

The growth of social activity in conversations and check-ins around TV programming has grown by about 91% year over year, according to a study by social TV tracking service Trendrr.TV. The company also uncovered several interesting trends regarding social activity.

Meanwhile, electronic program guides are starting to incorporate social buzz about shows, such as the iPad app from TV listings service Veronica Magazine in Holland, which might prove an interesting template for how to weave social buzz into a program guide. In related news, video discovery service Digitalsmiths announced this week that it's building in real-time buzz to the recommendations it delivers to its customers.

Social TV Activity:

  1. Twitter is the primary vehicle for social activity around TV.
    1. BUT…Animated shows, such as "American Dad" find the most activity on Facebook.
  2. CNN's political coverage in February made it the most social news network.
  3. TV networks and advertisers that capitalize on special events, such as the Superbowl, Oscars, and the Grammys, experience massive year over year growth.
