American indie rock band OK Go have produced some fantastically innovative, award winning videos and now they, along with Saatchi & Saatchi & Talenthouse, are inviting other filmmakers to make a promo video for their new track 'I'm Not Through'. As part of the Saatchi Music Video Challenge, now in its third year, new directors are being encouraged to produce something extraordinary for the group.
Ten finalists will be selected and announced on the Talenthouse site at the end of May, and from that group of ten, one lucky director will be chosen as the Grand Prize Winner and spend a full week at Cannes Lions in June, where their film will be screened at the Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors’ Showcase. Also, the public will get to vote on all submissions and the video that gains the highest number of social shares will win the 'People's Choice' competition. That's some huge exposure, right there.
Lead singer Damian Kulash, who will be part of a specially selected judging panel says of the project:
I'm really excited to see what people come up with for the Saatchi & Saatchi Music Video Challenge. Clearly, making videos is a pretty big part of our lives, but while we're in the studio finishing our new record, our heads are exclusively focussed on the songs. So, it feels right to let other people into the playroom while we're not using it. It's a good way to encourage people to go forth and make. A great idea is a great idea. You don't need us standing in front of your camera to make a great video.
The band have released the track in advance as a taster for the competition, using a compilation filler video:
The contest closes on the 7th May 2013 and those interested in entering can see how high the bar has been set in the 'Here It Goes Again' (or 'the Treadmill') video, still hugely popular on YouTube with (at time of writing) 16,603,520 views.
