It was announced so very long ago: Netflix would be coming to the rescue to the much-beloved Arrested Development. All of us who shed a tear to see one of the most hilarious TV shows of all time leave the airwaves way back in 2006 would finally be able to see some new episodes. After teasing a movie for so very long that seemed to never surface, the idea of new episodes was fantastic news, but then there was that sticking point: not coming out until "sometime in 2013." Oh no! Well, Netflix has announced a release date: May 26.
New Arrested Development on Netflix
There will be 15 episodes, and like Netflix does, all of the episodes will be available at the same time.
That's right, 15 freaking episodes!!! May 26 is a Sunday, but be prepared to go ahead and have a viewing party on Saturday night when the clock strikes 12:01 Pacific, because that's when they'll be available.
Quotes from the press release:
From Chief Content Officer for Netflix, Ted Sarandos:
Arrested Development is now widely viewed as one of the top TV comedies of all time and Mitch Hurwitz is bringing it to Netflix in a brand new way, crafted for the on-demand generation that has come to discover the show in the years since it last appeared on TV. The highly anticipated return of this show is sure to make history all over again.
From Arrested creator Mitchell Hurwitz:
Ted said that? Wow. Well don't print this obviously, but he's going to be immensely disappointed. In truth we are doing something very ambitious that can only be done with Netflix as partners and on their platform. Finally my simple wish for the show is coming true: that it be broadcast every second around the clock to every television, computer or mobile device in existence.
15 episodes is close to like, a full season. Can't wait!
