Namaste – Youtube Video Sharing for India

indian flag YouTube recently launched in India under the URL: YouTube.co.in.   The website, according to Google spokesperson is said to be specific to indian viewers only and shall be a special treat to those who are passionate about the country.

This move by Google has definitely made all indian internet users in particular extremely happy for the recognition they are getting on a global level. And this recognition is well deserved too, after all India is amongst the leading internet user’s countries of the world which also includes, America, China, Britain and Japan.

Last year Google had launched an India serving innovation platform, Google India Labs, and two India facing products- Google Local Search and Google Local Business Centre. The announcement is further evidence of the global search giant’s commitment to providing locally relevant information and opportunities for its Indian users.

Steve Chen a senior Youtube official said “we are very excited to bring a local version of YouTube to India considering the passion of users here for music and entertainment. For a culture that is steeped both in video and in storytelling, and where everyone has a voice — YouTube India will not only offer Indian users more relevant content but also provide a platform to share India’s unique and diverse culture and lifestyle with the largest online video community in the world.”

YouTube India will have a localized home page and search. It has collaborated with NDTV, UTV, India TV, Zoom TV for using their contents on its website.

Another senior Youtube official Sakina Arsiwala said that “India is the 20th country for YouTube to go local, and from now on all searches on the Indian portal would be specific to India”.

“We are very excited to bring a local version of YouTube to India considering the passion of users here for music and entertainment.” said Steve Chen, CTO and co-founder of YouTube. “For a culture that is steeped both in video and in storytelling, and where everyone has a voice -YouTube India will not only offer Indian users more relevant content but also provide a platform to share India’s unique and diverse culture and lifestyle with the largest online video community in the world.”
