The Week In Video: Hyperlapse Videos And Shippy Shopping

Had your fill of online video news? No? Good, neither have we! Here's some more bits and bobs from the past week that haven't made the main blog but we didn't want to leave them out. We've been mightily impressed by footage from the new (but spendy) Phantom Flex4K camera as well as the videos created by the new Hyperlapse tool from Teehan+Lax. We've also been laughing quite a lot at the new video from Kmart which has already garnered a massive 5+ million views in the 4 days since its release.

How To Create Hyperlapse Videos From Google Street View

I'm sure we've all spent at least a bit of time looking up a location on Google Street View, even if it's just to see our own road. It's a decent feature but frustrating if you want to follow a route that's more than a mile or so long. Luckily, if you are a Chrome user with a strong internet connection you can create your own Hyperlapse videos directly from Street View using a new tool from Teehan+Lax. What is Hyperlapse exactly? T&L explain that it's a:

technique combining time-lapse and sweeping camera movements typically focused on a point-of-interest. Creating them requires precision and many hours stitching together photos taken from carefully mapped locations. We aimed at making the process simpler by using Google Street View as an aid, but quickly discovered that it could be used as the source material. It worked so well, we decided to design a very usable UI around our engine and release Google Street View Hyperlapse.

Haven't tried it myself (internet connection not zippy enough - curse you British Telecom) but looking forward to seeing what others do with it.
