Real Networks has put together a quick history of digital file formats for video. While they glaze over the pre-digital era (which would have probably been really interesting) they did dive deep starting in 1984 with the first digital video standard. Accompanying all the major milestones, images of the King of Pop over the years. Well, at least it wasn't Madonna.
