Following the post from last week – “China to Release Online Video Sharing Policy,” – Details of the new regulations have been announced.

China’s State Administration of Radio Film and Television announced a set of regulations on online audio and video content providers. The new rules restrict the content providers to companies whose majority stakes are held by the government. However, it is yet clear to what extent these rules will be applied. Local sources believe the rules will only be applicable on content creators such as online TV and radio stations. However, adaptations of the regulation maybe applied to a wider range of companies such as online video-sharing sites. It is likely that the ambiguity will be clarified in future documents before the rules become effective on January 31, 2008.
