I'm pleased to announce to the ReelSEO community the Online Video Platform Summit, a new two-day single track event held in conjuction with the annual Streaming Media West Conference and Exhibition on November 18-19th in San Jose, Calif. The Online Video Platform Summit was born from the success of this year's Streaming Media East conference in New York City that had a record attendance of 3,733 attendees, up 5% from the 2008 total and the largest number in the Streaming Media conferences 11 year history.
Online video is by far the fast growing medium on the Internet and according to Cisco, over 90% of the traffic on the web. The market for online video platforms has also expanded rapidly and as Online Video Platform Summit Chair and Streaming Media magazine editor Eric Schumacher-Rasmussen pointed out,
"with the recent glut of online video platforms—more than 60 of them and counting—organizations face both unprecedented choice and intimidating confusion when it comes to the best way to get their video online in a way that will help them grow their business."
Online video platforms are becoming more focused on a wide array of capabilities from content management, encoding, advertising, syndication and monetization. As the market further expands and consolidates more choices become available and education is key for online media publishers to better understand, purchase and deploy the solutions available from the saturated online video platforms market. The Online Video Platform Summit was designed to help fill the void in educating video publishers of all types and sizes who are looking to publish content for the first time and need help with their online video solutions and strategies.
